Raccoons Are Out

Raccoon at a slow walk. Went over to that glacial erratic and dug around for snacks. They come out of their dens on warm days to absorb sun to save body fat. Sometimes they get a drink of water or search for food. Soon we can follow the males as they cruise for females to mate with. This is a great way to locate all the local dens. Most of ours around here are found in old red oaks. A great reason to leave these giant trees standing. Search for the tree cavities along boundary lines where large trees are left.
